Abstract
The use of physiology-based, patient-specific computer models is moving from research to the clinical use. In Silico Medicine technologies are now used to support the medical decision about an individual treatment, as well as to evaluate the safety and efficacy of new medical products. But such mission-critical uses make indispensable to guarantee that the predictions of such models will be always accurate enough to allow a correct decision. Thus, evaluating the credibility of in silico medicine technologies is becoming a key endeavour in this field.
During this seminar we will provide a theoretical framing to the problem of assessing models’ credibility, introduce recent technical standards, and then provide some examples of complex model’s verification, technical validation and clinical validation. The long-term goal is to establish good modelling practices that guide both the modeller and the regulator in this delicate process.
