Sano Centre for Computational Medicine is a new International Scientific Foundation located in Kraków, Poland.

As a cross-disciplinary institution, Sano uses machine learning/artificial intelligence (ML/AI), large scale computer simulations (HPC), data science, and other computational technologies towards overcoming global challenges in healthcare systems. The research agenda will be executed in close collaboration with Partners in Poland, EU and USA.

The position is for Sano’s Clinical Data Science team. Our group develops a new generation of semantically integrated databases for clinical and biomedical. Our system will build on recent Big Data workflow technologies to integrate using a multitude of very large data sets, including text mining results, mutation databases, internal and external -omics high-throughput sets, ontologies, and clinical data.  

Clinical Data Science group is seeking a creative and self-motivated cheminformatician with exceptional interpersonal and problem solving skills to join the team.

You are expected to:

  • do original research under the direction of one of Research Group Leaders;
  • publish your work in peer-review journals and present during national and international conferences;
  • co-mentor junior scientists – PhD students and MSc students.
  • collaborate with cheminformaticians, computational chemists, medicinal chemists, internal/external software development teams and other scientists to design IT solutions to meet scientific needs;
  • work with IT Platform and support teams to make applications and informatics toolkits reusable, shareable, discoverable, and executable on scale;
  • implement algorithms to solve cheminformatics and drug design problems;
  • use domain experience in cheminformatics, chemistry and programming to design and develop next generation IT capabilities focused on data integration, data analytics and data visualizations;
  • develop and implement machine learning models to advance drug discovery.

Required background and skills of the candidate:

  • excellent knowledge in Python, Linux/Unix, version control (e.g. Git) and Docker
  • experience with HPC, cloud (AWS) and distributed computing;
  • understanding of machine learning and experience in applying it in drug discovery (scikit-learn / pytorch / tensorflow);
  • experience in the creation of data workflows as well as data analysis and interpretation;
  • working knowledge of molecular descriptors, e.g. 2D/3D fingerprints;
  • track record of publications, patents, and/or scientific presentations;
  • strong communication skills, both written and oral;
  • ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams.

We offer a fixed term contract for 40 hours per week. This will be supported by an educational plan that includes attendance of courses and (international) meetings. The contract will include opportunities to participate in teaching and supervision of undergraduate and master students.

The salary, depending on relevant experience before the beginning of the employment contract, will be up to 14000 PLN gross per month, based on a full-time contract (40 hours a week) for the duration of up to 2 years with private medical care and a sports card.
