We are looking for an experienced: 

Technical Manager 

As Technical Manager you will lead and take part in the day-to-day work of the Sano ICT Team   responsible for smooth operations of a wide range of infrastructures managed by Sano both on-premises – including GPU-accelerated servers for AI as well as in the Cloud (public or private). You will also be responsible for creation and update of the ICT-related Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in Sano.   

Additionally, you will be able to assist Sano employees in running software on major High Performance Systems provided for the project by Partners – such as the Prometheus, Ares and Athena Supercomputers (ACC Cyfronet AGH, all systems on TOP500 with Athena on top spot in Poland), clusters at Jülich Supercomputing Center or LUMI Supercomputer (no 3 in the World).  

Finally the position on top of management of the team and taking part in the day-to-day operations will allow you to work with interesting and highly advanced technologies such as Private Clouds (esp. OpenStack), Containers (Docker, K8S), data science tools such as Jupyter and more.   

You will also oversee and assist when needed in all other tasks performed by the ICT Team including providing input for the public procurement documentation and taking part in the procurement process. 

You will be responsible for:

  • Supervising day-to-day operations of the ICT Team  
  • Taking part in installation and day-to-day management of Sano on-premises servers based on Linux (Ubuntu), virtual machines (mostly Ubuntu, but other Linux distributions such as CentOS/Rocky may also be required) and network infrastructure;  
  • Management of Cloud instances – both in the public cloud (major providers – AWS, Azure, GCP) as well as private/community cloud provided by Partners;  
  • Taking part in creation and enforcement of the ICT-related security Policies and Procedures in cooperation with the Sano Data Protection Officer;  
  • Helping Sano employees using the ICT Infrastructures provided by Sano;  
  • Keeping records of installed software, hardware and reported issues, along with their current status;  
  • Taking part in preparation of the technical and formal documentation;  
  • Assisting with analysis of available ICT technologies required for preparation of new projects and formal procedures such as public procurement. 

We require the following:

Mandatory:

  • BSc or MSc degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Telecommunication or similar (or ongoing education in the field);  
  • At least five years of experience as IT/ICT/Technical Manager, in system (including Linux servers) / network administration or similar;  
  • In-depth knowledge of IT hardware (esp. servers and network devices) and server software-related aspects;  
  • Excellent knowledge of Linux operation system – at minimum DEB and RPM-based distributions (e.g. Ubuntu/Debian and RHEL/Centos/SL/Rocky)  
  • Excellent knowledge of system services – esp. web servers / proxy (at minimum Apache HTTP Server and NGINX), databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis)  
  • Knowledge of basic monitoring systems (such as Zabbix, Nagios, Munin, Cacti)  
  • Knowledge of basic storage technologies – Direct Attached Storage (SATA, NVMe) and Network Attached Storage (NFS)  
  • At least basic knowledge of network technologies (IPv4 and IPv6, switching incl. VLANs, static routing, DHCP, Wi-Fi);  
  • Analytical thinking; ability to troubleshoot IT-related problems;  
  • Knowledge of English and Polish sufficient for smooth interaction with English/Polish-only speakers and working with documentation (both reading and writing).  

Optional (would be a bonus):

  • Experience with services provided by major public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)  
  • Knowledge of private cloud stacks (such as OpenStack, CloudStack or OpenNebula);  
  • Knowledge of advanced networking (dynamic routing, network redundancy, VPNs, SDN etc.);  
  • Certificates or training related to the ICT industry (such as Microsoft, Cisco, Juniper, Mikrotik, Ubiquity or similar) and/or security/IT audit certification;  
  • Experience with custom-built data collection, log analysis and monitoring solutions based e.g. on ELK Stack, Prometheus and Grafana;
