Creating an environment in which the researchers can easily support their research activities and, ideally, are able to perform a whole data life cycle for the sake of their scientific engagement is one of the main goals in today’s research-supporting initiatives. Some of them are focusing on the data-related part of the equation: defining and disseminating good practices around data and metadata quality, creating tools for cross-walks between different metadata schemas or coordinating whole scientific communities to uniform them (the schemes) for the sake od data sharing and reuse. Others are more e-infrastructure oriented. Delivery tools enable easy access to computing and storage resources together with dedicated thematic services. Ones are very relevant to the others as proper preparation of data is crucial for its utilisation, processing and delivery of the scientific outputs.

The talk will introduce the concept of EOSC as an initiative supporting open science activity and cross-disciplinary research across Europe. EOSC tries to cover every aspect (as we know them) relevant to the holistic approach to the delivery of a uniform European environment ready to support scientists in their science-related activities. It grasps the understanding that technology can significantly ease the research process and give it new added value. The collaborative aspect of science is crucial to it and is the main factor defining EOSC’s functions and ways of operation. EOSC puts a significant emphasis on data. Not only its production but reuse. Last but not least, it is aiming to become an environment where scientists can seek new collaborations and easily find other scientists, and their results, relevant to the current scientific goals.
