Populations worldwide are ageing. With the increasing longevity, decreasing infant mortality, and decreasing birth-rate, the problems of older age are becoming overwhelming. During the lecture, an overview of ageing process will be presented indicating possible different trajectories of ageing. An individual may age successfully which is when they retain their functional status, have well preserved cognition, low level of comorbidity, and live in the community. The person ageing unfavourably is the reverse. In such persons, the cross-talk between the low functionality, cognitive impairment and depression, frailty, and multimorbidity poses major challenges to their ability to live the independent life, to have their diseases adequately diagnosed and treated, and to their very survival. Briefly, three areas will be sketched where the use of present day inteligent technologies may be of use:

• Screening for and diagnosis of: sarcopenia, malnutrition, fraitly, low appetite, atypical disease presentations, delirium, movement disorders, dementia, depression , functional decline
• Support in the field of: inteligent sollutions, safety, the non-exclusion from clinical trials
• Therapeutic aids in the field of: minimally invasive diagnostics, minimally invasive surgery, hospital level care delivered at home, monitoring of response to medications, monitoring of medication compliance

The perspectives with possible connection to SANO operations will be presented.
